Top 5 Educational Toys

In a world where screens dominate, finding ways to engage children without an episode of Peppa Pig blaring in the background is proving pretty difficult nowadays. If you’re in need of some educational toy inspo that isn’t just your run of the mill wooden clock, then Toy Street has you covered. We understand the importance of introducing educational toys from a young age, and that’s why we’ve curated a collection of products designed just for that. Here’s a run down of 5 toys perfect for educational play!

100 Piece Wood Blocks Set:

I know I said we’d look at toys that aren’t your run of the mill wooden clocks, but wooden BLOCKS really are the corner stones for a child’s first play. This collection of 100 wooden blocks comes in four colours and nine shapes, perfect for stacking, building and (unfortunately for the adult cleaning it up) knocking down countless colourful combinations. The wooden block set is a must have for developing fine motor skills, dexterity, colour and shape recognition and pre-math skills!

Match & Count:

Learning to count is a pretty slow process, but a vital one to teach nonetheless! Make learning to count from 1 to 20 fun with Match & Count. Working as both a math activity and a puzzle, your child is tasked with matching the simple picture cards with the numbers; there’s no tricking this clever puzzle, as only the correct cards will fit together. This allows your child to self-correct their jigsaws and learn from the mistakes!

Times Tables Heroes:

There was nothing I dreaded more than a multiplication class at school. If your child is the same, then introduce a fun alternative with Time Tables Heroes! This multiplication game will help children practise their times tables from 2-12. With two games in one – Hero City board game and Multiplication Bingo – times tables will (hopefully…) become a fun activity.

In the Hero City Board Game players move around the board via the spinners and solving multiplication sums. They’ll need to defeat the evil unicorns, outwit the zombies or even escape the giant slugs! Times Tables Heroes also includes a colourful times tables checker, which can be used with or outside of the game to extend learning.

When the game is finished players can turn over the board for a fast-paced game of Multiplication Bingo! Using the cards and spinners from the board game, players race to be the first to get 3 in a row. This will be especially helpful for encouraging children to recall their times tables quickly.

Discover The World Jigsaw (1000Pc):

Travelling with a child can seem like a tiring idea, especially the dreaded prospect of a screamer on a plane full of passengers. Well, with the Discover The World jigsaw, travelling without even leaving the house has never been easier. This 1000 piece puzzle takes children on a global journey, exploring continents, countries, landmarks, and cultures along the way. As children piece together the puzzle, they’re improving their spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills, whilst getting a good look at the world!

Stepping Into Science:

If you don’t want to fall for the old mento in a coke bottle or at home slime science experiments, then see what Stepping Into Science has to offer. With 25 experiments in five key areas: nature, physics, chemistry, air, and water, science has never been easier to teach or learn!

Learn what plants need in order to grow and investigate plant propagation. Discover how a magnifying glass enlarges, how colours mix, how static electricity attracts, how sundials tell time, and how a motion picture works. Write secret messages, float a paper clip, blow super bubbles, build a soap-driven boat and more.

With a 48-page guidebook, Stepping into Science teaches science fundamentals with step-by-step, hands-on experiments, while also introducing children to the scientific method itself.

Final Thoughts:

From building blocks to maths games, to world puzzles and science kits, stepping away from the screen and into educational toys has never been easier. So, why wait – order your Toy Street products now!

Pokemon Tyranitar V and Empoleon V Double Tin – Review

Tyranitar V and Empoleon V are the two promo tins released in 2021 as part of the Sword and Shield “Battle Styles”. The content of both tins is the same other than the promo card that matches the subject on the tin. As you can also see from the pictures, the Tins have a shared graphics showing a matching pose of the Pokémon’s depicted on the lid.

Looking to the promo cards, both Tyranitar V and Empoleon V black-star promo cards are showing an alternative pose with respect to both the Tin lids and the standard card from the original set. The promo Tyranitar V feels the more dynamic of the two with the Pokémon frozen in a very aggressive pose. Empoleon alternative pose is not bad but it does not look too much different from the standard art one. The colour tones of the image are much darker on the promo cards, but I think they match much better the water Pokémon, thus overall the promo card still look quite cool. The rest of the art on the Tin is also quite nice with an embossed version of Tyranitar and Empoleon on a corner and a type-matching coloured area on the opposite sides. The graphic choice is well thought as the two tins can be placed side by side to show the matching graphic. Once placed this way, the two Pokémon’s seem to fight back-to-back against imaginary foes while the black band on the tins creates a reverted “V” that matches the small ones depicted close to the Pokémon.

What’s inside the Tin? Any good cards I can pull?

Once the lid lifted, the first thing you will find inside each of the two Tins are the Beautiful Promo cards together with the usual online code. Each Tin will also come with 4 booster packs of 10 cards each: 2 booster packs of the 2021 “Battle Styles” set, one pack of the 2020 “Darkness Ablaze” set and, finally, one pack of the 2016 “Steam Siege” set. Yes, you read it correctly: that’s really an 8 years old booster pack! I do appreciate the selection of booster packs may seems a bit odd but it should be reminded this is a 2021 product. On the other hand, finding these booster was really a surprise for me and a big trip down memory lane.

In addition to the nostalgic value, the booster packs included here are starting to have some interesting collectible value that should definitely be considered. For example, the oldest set picked for this Tin, Steam Siege, can sell for around £10 at the time of writing. It should be noted that being from the XY era, this set still uses the old card format thus they can not been played in competitive events using the standard format although they may be still allowed in other formats or in casual games.

As Darkness Ablaze and Battle Styles boosters are more recent, their collectible value is sensibly lower than the one of Steam Siege. However, there are some very interesting cards you can pull from them like an amazing Charizard VMAX full art card that is one of my favourite version of this Pokémon. If you are lucky, you can also pull a full art version of Tyranitar V and Empoleon V from the two Battle Styles booster packs that can be an amazing find coming from their Tin. I was not so lucky when I opened mine but I managed to get a Necrozma and a Necrozma alternate art from the two Tins which was quite fun.

Are Tyranitar V and Empoleon V Tins worth it?

I think overall the two Tins are more suited for collectors than they may be for actual players. Being a 2021 product and including some even older sets, all the cards you can pull from opening the booster packs will be not allowed in competitive events in 2024. This is mainly due to recent changes in the regulation for the standard format games that rotated out Battle Styles sets from those allowed in the events. Players should consider the sets you will find in the Tin may be allowed in other formats and when playing casually with friends, but newer sets will be more suitable to make competitive decks if you are looking to attend any event.

On the other hand, both the Tyranitar V and Empoleon V Tins have some collectible value because of the age of the sets they comes with. In particular, the Steam Siege set cannot be found on the market any more and thus it already has a nice re-selling value. Considering this aspect, these Tins can offer some interesting packs for a very reasonable price if you are looking to start collecting sealed booster packs. There is also the possibility that you may be able to get a few valuable rare cards from these sets if you want to push your luck and open the packs.

Finally, you should consider how the Tins themselves look once placed on a shelf. I know there are people collecting Tins for various reasons and I am among those that uses them for storing spare Pokémon cards and other Pokémon products. I don’t have many Tins in my collection but I love to keep them on my board game shelves as the art is so beautiful that is a shame to not show them off. Empoleon V and Tyranitar V are quite nice Tins to have for this purpose due to their matching art and nice style

Dragon Wood Review

Venture in to the fictitious Dragon Wood and capture those creatures. Players play the role of adventurers on a quest to capture creatures. From bunny’s and insects through to wolves and unicorns right up to the biggest creature, the Dragon. This is another classic Gamewright game with simple mechanics, minimal components which in this game is 2 differing decks of cards and 6 dice. I’ve been really impressed with this one.

Route To The Dragon.

In this instance I am going to highlight the victory condition first which is simply gain as many points from creatures captured. The majority of creatures when caught will give a score which you add to your total.

The game ends and you count the scores when either

1. Both Dragons are captured or
2. Adventurers go through the adventure deck, twice.

When either of these conditions met, count your creature scores and highest wins. The player who captures the most creatures gains 3 bonus points at the end of the game. In the event of a tie, whoever captures the orange dragon claims victory.

The Adventure.

Set the Dragonwood deck first and reveal 5 creatures in your enchanted forest. If you reveal any event cards, shuffle these back in. Now shuffle the adventurer deck and deal a hand of 5 cards to all players. On your turn you can either attempt to capture a creature using the cards in your hand, or reload your hand by drawing an additional adventure card. You hand limit is 9 cards.

When making a capture attempt at a creature you can do this in 3 ways.

Strike – Play a row of adventure cards, regardless of colour. 4,5,6 for example.
Stomp – Play cards that are the same number. A pair of 8’s as an example.
Scream – Play the same colour of card. Perhaps all green.

Play however many cards associated with the way you want to attack. This is very much in a Rummi format for those familiar with Rummi or Rummikub. The sum of cards played results in the amount of dice you roll to which you have to equal beat the score on that creature to capture it. 3 cards played equals 3 dice to roll. The chance and gamble element are very much on how many cards can you reasonably justify to try and capture, but also try to guarantee it.

The dice are also not typical D6, they only have 1 to 4 printed on so they are weighed down here. You do need to factor that in when weighing the odds of success on a capture. So, there are multiple factors to consider for success.

The types of cards you get to play will all very much depend on luck of the draw and what you can compile, which is cool. Equally the creatures available in the middle will influence your targeting, how easy they could be to pick up, their points value. For a simple game there is actually plenty to consider. When you capture your targeted creature, take them from the enchanted wood and keep to score at the end. Replace this creature with a new card from the wood so there 5 options again.

You could also choose to capture enhancements instead of creatures. These will provide you with benefits in the game, not a score though.

Goblins And Trolls Can Be Beautiful.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder at the end of the day. One thing in particular with this game is how it captures the eye. It’s stunning, which shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as all Gamewright Games that I have played look brilliant. The artwork is some of the best in the board gaming world and I always appreciate it, this one is no exception. It is full of bold colour and variety. Artwork never drives a game for me, but when you have a great game for mechanics that also looks awesome then you are on to a winner and this game checks both. Gamewright actually reference this in their notes, that this game was issued without any images by the designer/creator, just the rules and content without pictures, their team loved it and an artist set to work on bringing it to life. Excellent work!

Gamewright games are so convenient to take on the road. They are compact and usually require minimal space. We’ve taken many of their games on our holidays in the past and this one joins the collection here for perfect travel games where space can be at a premium. This particular game from Gamewright also has just that bit more depth compared to some. Most games I’ve played of theirs have been purely card based allowing a definitive result on each card played. The utilising of dice here adds a layer of jeopardy that you cannot control which I’ve both enjoyed (and loathed when the dice have been against me) but it is cool.

Final Thoughts.

Gamewright have smashed it again with this gem. I get excited now every time I see another one of their games I haven’t played because history tells me it will be great, and this game is no exception to that. Great theme, simple mechanics and wonderful art. Great work!

Pokemon Tyranitar V Tin – Review

Tyranitar V Tin is one of the two promo tins released in 2021 as part of the Sword and Shield “Battle Styles” set. The other one is Empoleon V making this a nice Water/Rock duo-set that comes with many nice looking cards.

The main star of the Tin is of course Tyranitar V that is featured in a new alternative pose in the black-star promo card that comes with the Tin. I usually appreciate the efforts the artists put in making these promo cards and I think xxxxx made an amazing work on this one. With respect to the standard card, the promo Tyranitar V is much more dynamic and the choice of freezing him during his attack is great. I can see him coming out from my bench ready to make my opponent tremble on their feet! The rest of the art on the Tin is also pretty good with an embossed Tyranitar featured around the plastic window holding the promo card. The pose used for this last one is similar to the one on the promo card but the Pokemon is definitely less menacing and I personally like the card much more.

What’s inside the Tin? Any good cards I can pull?

Together with the promo card, Tyranitar V Tin also comes with 4 booster packs. The copy I recently opened included 2 “Battle Styles” booster packs (2021), One of “Darkness Ablaze” (2020) and one pack of “Steam Siege” (2016). As typical of these tins, the choice of packs includes both older and recent sets (with respect to the date of release) making it interesting from a collectible point of view.

Looking at the contents, the choice of having included a single booster pack of Steam Siege in this Tin seems a bit weird considering this is quite an old set from the XY era that still uses the old card format. Together with other nuances, the cards from this set are also missing the regulation marking (a single letter placed just after the card number that helps to identify cards allowed in formal competitive events) making them not suitable for competitive games. On the other hand, this almost 10-years old set has quite a decent collectible value with an intact booster and a few rare cards fetching in the £10 region.

Darkness Ablaze, on the other hand, has a bit less collectible value as a set although there is a chance you can be so lucky to pull the amazing Charizard VMAX alternative full art card. Disregarding the actual monetary value, this is one of the most iconic version of the beloved Pokemon and a personal favourite of mine.

The booster packs of the final set featured in this Tin, Battle Styles, are still available on the shelves thus their collectible value is quite low at the time of writing. At the same time, the set includes some really good cards collectors are still hunting down. As fun as it can be, the rarest of them is a full art version of Tyranitar V that sells at the moment for around £40. If the blind lady blesses you, there are also a good number of other cards you may get that will make these two booster packs well worth them.

Is Tyranitar Tin worth it?

In a nutshell, it is not easy to define the value of Tyranitar V tin. The first aspect to consider is that all the cards you may be able to pull from this product will have a regulation mark “E” or lower, and there will be not suitable for competitive events in 2024 in the standard format as the regulation literally just changed. You may still be able to use them in other formats and for sure in casual events but this Tin will not be a good product to boost your competitive decks.

The main reason for considering this Tin is its collectible value and the potential for it to raise in the future. If you are into collecting sealed product, you may want to hold on opening the the Steam Siege pack as it is approaching its 10 years anniversary. The other packs may not be super valuable right now but they can surprise you with very collectible cards if you are lucky. As these sets will be disappearing from the shops, you will also see the value of them increase steadily.

Last but not least, let’s not forget about the very beautiful Tin itself. I quite like them and I use them a lot for different purposes from storing my spare cards to hold online game codes and Pokemon figurines. And if you have a lot of them, they also look amazing once lined up on a shelf to show how many you caught so far!

Pokemon Empoleon V Tin Review

Empoleon V Tin is one of the two promo tins released in 2021 as part of the Sword and Shield “Battle Styles” set together with Tyranitar V Tin.

The main star of the Tin is of course Empoleon V that is featured in a new alternative pose in the black-star promo card that comes with the Tin. This time, the promo version of Empoleon is not super different from the standard art one although the pose is not the same and the colour tones darker. Overall, I prefer the promo version more than the standard one but I would have appreciated a bit more effort to make this card more unique. The rest of the art on the Tin is also not much different with the pose of the embossed Empoleon featured on the box being very similar to the one on the promo card.

What’s inside the Tin? Any good cards I can pull?

Once the lid lifted, the first thing you will find inside the Tin is the Beautiful Promo card (and the always present online code). The Tin will also comes with 4 booster packs of 10 cards each: 2 booster packs from the “Battle Styles” set (2021), One from the “Darkness Ablaze” set (2020) and, finally, one pack from the “Steam Siege” set (2016). With respect to other Tins, there is a huge time gap in the set picked for this product with the oldest one being more than 8 years old. Of course it was only 5 years old at the time the Tin came out in 2021 :).

The oldest set picked for this Tin, Steam Siege, is quite an old set from the XY era that still uses the old card format. Just in case you are not familiar with older sets, the cards from this era are very different from the more recent ones with minor and major cosmetic differentiations. Being these cards quite old, pre-date the current regulation for competitive play thus they can not been used in the standard format although they may be still allowed in other format or in casual games. On the other hand, the set holds a good collectible value as the intact booster pack can sell for around £10. There are also some cards of the set that can sell in the same range.

The collectible value of the Darkness Ablaze booster is less than the previous one being the set not so old. If you are not into collecting and you want to try your luck, the best card you can pull from the set is the amazing Charizard VMAX full art card that is among the best version of this Pokémon. Definitively a personal favourite of mine and a good value rare card.

The last two packs, finally, are from a quite recent set (Battle Styles) that can still be purchased in some shops. Considering this, it may take some time for a sealed booster to get some value but, on the other hand, there are still players that may be looking to get the last cards to complete their set collection. Among the best cards you can pull from the set there is a full art version of Tyranitar V and Empoleon V that can be quite valuable if you are so lucky to get it from the Tin.

Is Empoleon V Tin worth it?

I think Empoleon V Tin is a product more suited for collectors than it may be for actual players. Being a 2021 product and including some even older sets, all the cards you can get from opening the booster packs will be not suitable for competitive events in 2024 as the regulation for the standard format just changed at the beginning of 2024 allowing only the use of newer cards. Players should surely consider the sets you will find in the Tin may be allowed in other formats and when playing with friends but newer sets will be more suitable to make competitive decks.

On the other hand, the collectible value of the Empoleon V Tin would not be negligible because of the sets chosen for the booster packs it comes with. In particular, the Steam Siege set can not be found on the market and thus it is already reasonably valuable as it is closing to its 10 year anniversary. Considering this, if you are looking to start collecting sealed booster packs, the Empoleon V Tin can provide some interesting packs for a very reasonable price. There is also the possibility that you may be able to get some very valuable rare cards from these if you can not resist to the urge to crack the packs (and you are also very lucky).

Finally, I would also like to remind that the Tin itself is quite beautiful and that collecting them is quite common. Personally, I like to use them for storing my spare Pokémon cards as they can hold tons of them very safely. I also use the Tins to hold other Pokémon products including the codes for the online game. I must admit I keep also a few of them on my board game shelves as the art is so beautiful that is a shame to not show them off.
