The Caribbean Manatee (named for residing in those waters), has the endearing nickname ‘sea cow’ and is represented by the wonderful Sian for National Geographic. A cuddly design by the outstanding German maker – Steiff.

Unfortunately, the manatee’s friendly nature and innocent appeal has sadly cost them dearly. Swimming too close to sea fairing vessels, such as fishing and passing boats, out of their own curiosity and slow movements, has meant that many have received injuries due to the turning blade propellers and fishing tackle, sometimes fatal. This has placed them on the seriously endangered list. It is hoped that Sian can help to highlight their plight.

The Caribbean Manatee was photographed by Joel Sartore, for National Geographic and their Photo Ark, Species Preservation Project.

Sian is 33cm / 13″ in size and non-jointed. She has been sewn from a luxuriously dense and soft, grey woven fur plush with glossy black safety eyes and enchanting facial details that have been delicately airbrushed into place, for shape and definition. With her amble body, she makes the most wonderful cuddle buddy and will enchant you with her charm.

Sian wears her Steiff button-in-ear with yellow label and is machine washable at 30c.

This Steiff product conforms to European safety standards, holding the CE symbol.
