Play Room Organisation Hacks!

Are you tired of walking into a room and standing on a Playmobil figure or a piece of Lego on the floor? There’s no greater pain, but don’t worry, we have solutions! There are some simple hacks you can use to get those toys and games organised and keep the playroom tidy!

Firstly, you need to have a think about what you want from your playroom. Do you want the toys to look perfectly neat so they’re the envy of all your children’s friends? Alternatively, do you want something practical?

Let’s face it, in a busy household it’s unlikely that those perfectly tidy toys are going to stay perfectly tidy, so why put pressure on yourself to keep them that way? We vote for ease and practicality every time (and if it looks good that’s a bonus)! So, here are some top tips to organise and de-clutter, whilst still having a cool space for your little ones to play in!

How Many Toys Are You Dealing With?

Organisation is difficult if you’re not exactly sure what you need to organise. Gather everything you’ve got together, and (if you can) put it in a pile together in the middle of the room. It may seem overwhelming at first but once you get your head around what you’ve got, it’ll be easy!

If you’ve got more toys than floor space it may be worth having a clear-out. Ask your children to go through and pick out what they ACTUALLY play with, and donate the rest!

Divide The Toys!

Organise all the toys into different sections, for example, keep all the toy cars together, the games together, and the puzzles together. This will help when it comes to putting everything away, as each section of toys will have its own place to live.

Clean!

You’re a busy parent, juggling kids and a job is difficult, so you might not have gotten around to giving the playroom a bit of disinfecting this month… or year (no judgement). Use this time to have a quick clean, it’s not often all of the toys will be out of the way and off the shelves!

Play Room Organisation Hacks - Teddy Bears

Invest In Some Tubs Or Boxes

Clear tubs or boxes are the perfect way to store toys! The tubs can be stacked and easily moved, and the clear plastic means you’ll be able to see what’s inside. If you’re feeling particularly crafty, why not make up some labels for the boxes?

And Repeat!

If you follow these steps and make sure you’re kids have a clear out a couple of times a year, you’re sure to always have a clean and tidy playroom (a tidy house means a tidy mind, eh?).

Have Fun With It

Organisation doesn’t have to be boring! If you’ve got a creative side, let it run wild! There are lots of things you can do to make the toys look great as well as be practical.

  • Instead of using a shelf for books, use it as a fun display for toy cars

  • Use an over the door shoe organiser for all your pens, pencils and crafts.

  • Use storage boxes that double as seating to save space!

  • Attach clipboards to the wall instead of pictures frames to easily change art!

  • Once the kids have finished a puzzle, frame it and put it on the wall!

  • Make a fun display out of your Teddy Bears!

Ty At Toy Street

Ty Toys have been around since the 90s, and I’m sure we all remember owning a classic Beanie Baby at some point in our lives! Here at Toy Street, we stock a huge range of Ty toys from different collections – so let’s find out some more about them!

Ty History

Since Ty was founded in 1986 by Ty Warner, it has become a huge plush toy manufacturer. The most popular toy to come from Ty to date is the Beanie Baby. Beanie Babies evolved into the world’s first cuddly toy sensation in 1995! People began collecting the toys and some thought that they would one day be worth hundreds. Sadly, that wasn’t the case; but there is the odd beanie baby that can go for around £80 on eBay. Even to this day!

Ty toys are super comfortable and cosy as they are made from soft material and are therefore perfect for children (and adults, we don’t judge!). Each Ty toy has its own name and a short poem printed on its heart-shaped tag, making each and every one unique.

Beanie Babies

Beanie Babies have been one of Ty’s most popular toys since they were introduced in 1993. There are hundreds of Beanie Babies styles, so there’s something to suit all preferences – including characters like Peppa Pig and Flopsy Rabbit. Beanie Babies Characters are collected by people of all ages! There’s also a range of Beanie Buddies, which are larger replicas of Beanie Babies that range from large to jumbo sized.

Baby Ty

Baby Ty’s are a cuddly and adorable baby and toddler range introduced in 1999. They’re perfect for toddlers and babies due to their hidden seam construction, stitched eyes and short coat! Our favourite Baby Ty toys include Doodles the Seal and Squirt the Seal.

Beanie Boos

Ty Beanie Boos are stuffed animals with huge sparkly glistening eyes and look fantastic! Beanie Boo features animals (and mythical creatures, like our friend Grindal the Dragon) with more colour and less realism. They’re extremely popular with children as their eyes are just so inviting! The range also includes Beanie Boo Clips which are smaller Boo’s that can be attached to your keyring, school bag or anywhere you like!

Top 5 Playmobil Vehicles

Did you know that playing with toy cars, trucks and vans can promote children’s physical and cognitive development? Well, they do! The benefits of toy cars are in high numbers, they can help with dexterity, improve hand-eye coordination and in a pinch, they make great head massagers!

They improve general motor skills as rolling the cars along the floor teaches a child their own strength as they see how to adjust the pressure when pushing the cars along, this behaviour can then be transferred into how hard to push a door open or stroke a dog. Vocabulary is widened as the kids learn different parts of the car and before you know it you might have a potential future race car driver on your hands!

So which toy cars should your child be playing with? Well, look no further, because Playmobil has everything you need. Here are our Top 5 Playmobil Vehicles to get your child developing skills and having fun all at the same time!

Throwback Thursday – Troll Dolls

The original Troll dolls were not the most aesthetically pleasing, but were very popular nonetheless. Created in 1959, they quickly became one of the most sought-after toys around the world. The Trolls that we know and love from the last few decades were made from plastic in a variety of different shapes and sizes, all with uniquely whacky colourful hair.

Trolls have recently made a comeback with a new aesthetic format. Let’s take a look at their long, successful journey.

Troll Dolls History

The first Troll Doll was created in 1959 by Thomas Dan, in Denmark. It was originally made for his daughter as a Christmas present, as he could not afford to buy her gifts. Thomas carved the doll out of wood and once his daughter’s friends saw it, they all wanted one. Thomas saw an opportunity and started producing the dolls in more durable plastic, with them being known as ‘Good Luck Trolls’.

They became increasingly popular in Eastern Europe during the 1960s and before long they were introduced to the United States. The production of Troll Dolls continued to be solely based in Denmark, until the 1980s when the dolls made an unexpected comeback. This resulted in Dan giving an American company the rights to produce the dolls in the US.

The Troll Collection

Troll Dolls did not just come in doll format, they were everywhere. On pencil toppers and pencil cases, there were mini dolls and large dolls all having different coloured hair and occasional different professions such as a Troll Policeman and Troll Teachers.

As well as physical toys there was also a range of cartoon TV shows in the early ’90s, as well as videos games. They have also appeared in more recent TV and films such as Toy Story, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Dr Who!

Once again, like any retro toy, there is a small chance that specific Troll Dolls will be worth a bit of money. A Large Monkey Boy Sailor Troll was sold on eBay for £190. It might be worth digging out your old collection of Trolls after all!

Trolls Of Today

In 2013, the Dam family sold the intellectual property rights of Trolls to Dreamworks Animated, who then became the sole worldwide owner of merchandise rights. In 2016, a 3D animated film called ‘Trolls’ was produced with stars such as Justin Timberlake, James Corden and Anna Kendrick being the voices for the Trolls. The new animation design made the Trolls looks a little more pleasant and focused on a mission to save Troll village from a Bergen (a horrible creature whose main aim is to eat Trolls).

The film earned $346 million worldwide and was nominated for several awards including an Academy Award and Golden Globe. Off the back of the successful film came a whole range of new Troll toys, focusing on the film’s lead characters, Princess Poppy and Branch, including playsets, scooters, and jigsaws… you name it, you can probably get Trolls on it!

As much as we all loved the original Troll Dolls, it’s hard not to enjoy the cute new animation and the merchandise that comes with it!

We have a range of Trolls toys here on Toy Street – Come and take a look!
